Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service Tours Snake Island Port; Reaffirms Collaboration

Snake Island Port reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s trade and industrialisation goals during a familiarisation tour of the port’s facilities by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. He was warmly received by the Board of Directors and Management of Snake Island Management Company, alongside representatives of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Speaking during the tour, Nigerdock Chairman & CEO, Maher Jarmakani, said, “Snake Island Port has strengthened its position as a leader in port infrastructure development, promoting trade facilitation, and being a catalyst for economic advancement in the region. This project is an alignment with government’s vision to attract foreign direct investment into Nigeria and having a one-stop shop that ensures compliance, world class services, technology transfer, and investment in the future of our country. Our close working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and strict adherence to regulatory guidelines create a seamless and efficient environment for international trade.”

In 2024, Nigerdock completed an agreement with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the expansion and development of Snake Island Port, an 85-hectare, multipurpose port facility comprising three terminals located within Snake Island Integrated Free Zone. Nigerdock Multipurpose Terminal (NDMT), the port’s flagship terminal, is fully operational, while a second terminal, Snake Island Container Terminal (SICT) is under construction. A third greenfield terminal is earmarked to be a bulk cargo terminal.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, commented, “Nigerdock remains at the forefront of helping to deliver the full benefits of free zones and new ports development to Nigeria, and that is foreign direct investment, creating jobs, transferring skills and technology, and raising revenue. I look forward to a future of collaboration and partnerships to achieve mutually beneficial objectives.”

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the supervisory oversight of the Nigerian Ministry of Finance, responsible for customs revenue collection, facilitation of trade, and border security activities.
